ROKHS QUARTET

Het Rokhs Ensemble werd in 2021 opgericht door târ-speler Sogol Mirzaei en zanger/percussionist Hossein Rad. Twee jonge en zeer getalenteerde dames, ud-speler Yasamin Shahhosseini en kemancheh-speler Sina Danesh uit Teheran, breidden het ensemble uit tot het huidige Rokhs Quartet.

De vier muzikanten doorgronden de klassieke Perzische muziek in al haar complexiteit en diversiteit, met al haar invloeden, ook vanuit Centraal-Azië en het Midden-Oosten. Daarmee verleggen ze muzikaal gezien nieuwe horizonten. Oftewel, Rokhs Quartet laat de vele, diverse facetten zien van de klassieke Perzische muziek. Rokhs betekent dan ook
eigenlijk ‘gezichten’.

Yassamin Shahhosseini won de prestigieuze Aga-Khan Music Award in 2022. Zij studeerde af aan de Teheran University in Perzische Traditionele Muziek. Sinds 2020 werkt ze al regelmatig met artiesten als de kemencheh-legende Kayhan Kalhor en Ross Daly.
  
Sogol Mirzaei woont sinds 2006 in Parijs. Zij studeerde aan het Conservatorium van Teheran en haalde haar master musicologie aan de Sorbonne Universiteit. Als soliste speelt zij wereldwijd in diverse ensembles, o.a. bij Orpheus XXI met Jordi Savall. Sina Danesh studeerde ook af aan de Teheran University in de Iraanse muziek. Op zijn twaalfde won hij al zijn eerste internationale prijs. Sinds 2008 maakt hij deel uit van Hamnavâzân-e Sheyda Ensemble, onder leiding van de beroemde Mohammad Reza Lotfi.

Hossein Rad tenslotte woont tegenwoordig in Genève. Hij studeerde zowel vocaal als instrumentaal repertoire bij diverse grootmeesters, waaronder Djamchid Chemirani. Hij heeft zeer veel interesse in de traditionele muziek uit Centraal-Azie.
Het Rokhs Quarett heeft in maart 2023 opnames gemaakt voor hun eerste album.

classical Persian music by the new generation

The Rokhs Ensemble was founded in 2021 by târ player Sogol Mirzaei and singer and percussionist Hossein Rad. Two young and extraordinarily talented musicians, the oud player Yasamin Shahhosseini and the kamancheh player Sina Danesh from Tehran, expand the highly virtuosic duo into a quartet in the most beautiful way. 

The four musicians explore classical Persian music in all its complexity and diversity, with all their influences, also from Central Asia and the Middle East. The imaginative play and the fine, diverse facets – or faces as the translation of Rokhs is – guarantee the expansion of the musical sound horizon with great pleasure. 
 
Yassamin Shahhosseini is the winner of the prestigious Aga-Khan Music Awards in 2022. She graduated from Tehran University in Persian Traditional Music. Since 2020 she has been working regularly with the famous Kayhan Kalhor and Ross Daly. Sogol Mirzaei is an experienced and active exponent of Iranian classical music in Paris. She was initially trained at the Tehran Conservatory. In 2006 she moved to France, where she continued her career and obtained a master's degree in musicology from the Sorbonne University. Today she performs worldwide as a soloist in music ensembles,
a.o.Orpheus XXI with Jordi Savall. 

Sina Danesh is a Tehran-based Iranian kemancheh player who graduated from Tehran University of Arts with a Masters in Iranian Music. When he was twelve, he won first prize at the International Youth Music Festival Fajr. Since 2008 he has been playing in the Hamnavâzân-e Sheyda Ensemble, founded and directed by Mohammad Reza Lotfi.  

Hossein Rad was born in Tehran and now lives in Geneva. He learned music from his father at an early age. Since then he has continued to develop his musical education of both vocal and instrumental repertoire with various maestros in Iran and abroad such as Ali Bayâni and Djamchid Chemirani. He has a great interest in the traditional music of Central Asia.
 
The Rokhs Quarett have recorded their first album in March 2023.
